Compass for Compassion
Compassion Compass was a unique event held on the summer solstice of 2020 within a temporary community at True North, Hudson, NY. This artistic gathering was dedicated to establishing a fundamental value of the community centered around compassion. Through a collective ritual, seeding, and an interactive performance, the experience aimed to foster this principle.
During the global pandemic lockdown, around thirty creatives from diverse social, economic, and educational backgrounds lived closely together, pondering the world's condition and envisioning new ways of living in a post-pandemic era.
By carving grooves and marking the eight cardinal directions, a physical representation of the landscape was created, emphasizing the global essence of the work and echoing the community's name, "True North."
After inviting all participants to bless the seeds of local wildflowers and the nearby river water, the performance commenced. Each of the eight participants sowed seeds in their designated groove and then watered another person's seeds, symbolizing a collective and supportive effort. The celebration concluded with the audience joining in to sow and water the grooves, followed by an impromptu circular dance to mark the end of the event.
